Relax before this afternoon’s tour of the city’s highlights, including the Plaza de Mayo, the stately Casa Rosada, theCabildo and the Metropolitan Cathedral. You may drive pastthe colorful La Boca District or San Telmo, the birthplace oftango. Get to know your fellow guests this evening at a welcomecocktail party.

On arrival, enjoy lunch at the Arakur resortand, time and weather permitting, take a guided trek in theCerro Alarken Nature Reserve or simply relax with a cappuccinoand enjoy the views of Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel. Later,board ‘Le Lyrial’ and settle into your cabin, where you can takein views right from your own private balcony. Walk the decksand explore the common spaces as you familiarize yourself withthe luxury cruiser, your home for the next 15 nights at sea. Youmay even want to toast to your journey in the bar with your fellowguests.

In the past, lectures have covered diverse topics such asseabirds and penguins of the Southern Ocean, the formation ofsea ice over thousands of years, and personal accounts of livingand working in Antarctica. While a professional photographyenrichment coach is on hand to assist with questions, enthusiastswill especially enjoy A&K’s dedicated Photography Expeditiondeparting January 17. The cool waters in these parts are rich inkrill, making them a favorite with local wildlife searching forfood. Alongside your naturalist guides, spot various species ofwhales and seabirds from ‘Le Lyrial’s’ deck.

History buffsmay prefer a tour that visits some of the Falkland battlefields aswell as the memorials to those who lost their lives in the conflictbetween Britain and Argentina in 1982.

You also have the opportunity to retrace part of the route taken byErnest Shackleton during his historic crossing of South Georgiain 1916. Weather permitting, you may visit his gravesite inGrytviken alongside your onboard historian, an expert onthe great explorer’s life.

Thereare also plans to sail through Paradise Bay and the LemaireChannel, the latter often referred to as “Kodak Alley” for itsbreathtaking, picture-perfect beauty.
